Born in Vembakkam village near Singapperumal Temple near Chengalpattu, he spent his early childhood there, then lived in the Mylapore suburb of Chennai for three years and attended BS High School. Later, he studied at St. Columbus High School, Chengalpattu and Madras Christian College, Chennai for two years. However, after he completed his schooling, his father’s death forced his mother to move from her native village to Vellala Street in Purasaivakam, Chennai, where her elder sister lived.
